About Gore Park Community Outreach
Ongoing price inflation has driven the cost of basic food items beyond reach for many in our communities. Many now find that paychecks and government allowances are stretched beyond their limit. Empty pantries and barren fridges are the norm for too many households.
Gore Park Community Outreach is an all-volunteer organization that provides food to 4000+ people on a weekly basis. It relies on food donations from local businesses to operate its programs. Each week a team of 170 passionate volunteers pick-up and redistribute food items that cannot be sold due to cosmetic imperfections (bruises, dents, blemishes) or short code dates. People in need get food and overflowing landfills get a reprieve.
Gore Park Community Outreach does not receive government funding for its programs. Hard costs, like gasoline, insurance and maintenance for vehicles as well as rent for warehouse space are paid through cash donations collected by the organization.
While it's widely known for its food distribution program which takes place at the parking lot of Hamilton City Hall each Saturday morning, Gore Park Community Outreach also has a partnership with McMaster Food Collective (food bank) within McMaster University. It also supports food programs at Cathedral High School and St. Jean de Brebeuf Secondary School in Hamilton.
In Burlington they partner with The Meals of Hope Program at Port Nelson United Church and support Bonnie Place (Senior’s apartments) with supplies for their in-house food pantry program. They also support food programs coordinated through Wesley and Indwell which serve new Canadians, unhoused citizens and seniors.
Gore Park Community Outreach is a registered Canadian charity.
